The FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor is smaller, easier to set up, more accurate compared to past models, and is also slightly more accurate than a finger stick. All CGMs track the blood sugar in the interstitial fluid (fluid between the cells) vs. the blood for finger stick. The sugar absorption into the interstitial fluid lags behind the blood by about ~15 min. A CGM’s readings will lag a finger stick by ~15 minutes, causing a difference in readings when values are changing quickly. This change velocity arrows in the Libre 3 Plus helps patients anticipate and manage rapid glucose changes after eating and exercise.
